Here are some photography projects I've been working on since CHDK (Canon Hack Development Kit) was ported to my Canon SD880. CHDK adds a lot of capabilities to the Canon including high-level features such as motion detection and time-lapse not to mention the low-level features such as overriding the limited Shutter, Aperture, and ISO options.
Time Lapse Photography
Atlanta Skyline
This was shot from my South-East facing hotel room window while I was in Atlanta, GA. Would have been nice to shoot a longer duration but this was shot prior to the arrival of the AC power supply for my camera so I was limited to how long my battery would let me shoot (additionally, I didn't disable the LCD viewfinder which didn't help prolong the battery). There is a little bit of reflection of the room interior in the window due to the ambient light from outside that I didn't notice until afterward.
- Script: Ultra Intervalometer
- Interval: 5 seconds (sometimes longer due to camera processing)
- Duration: 3 hours, 10 minutes (until battery died)
- 189 images
- Movie: 15 fps
Driving Time-Lapse
I used a bungee cord to secure the camera on a mini-tripod between the back seat headrests. The 30 second interval was probably a bit too long for driving. At highway speeds, you drive far enough down the road in 30 seconds that the new frame has very little referenced in the previous frame except for the car's interior. Next time I make the drive I'll try it again with a shorter interval to compare the results.
- Script: Ultra Intervalometer
- Interval: 30 seconds
- Duration: 5 hours, 36 minutes
- 600 images
- Movie: 10 fps
Lightning Photography
I experimented with a couple scripts but had the best results with the MDFB script. More information to come later, in the meantime, just check out the results.
